This painting was created en plein air near Paso Robles, CA, at Mission San Miguel, which is one of the least-restored missions from the original series of 21, pioneered by Franciscan friars Serra and Lassuen. I set up outside the front wall, drawn by the well-worn textures of the mission facade. The painting was inspired by Mission paintings created in the 19th century by Edwin Deakin.
