Fishing by Moonlight

One summer evening travelling to Deer Lake, Newfoundland, Canada, I was mesmerized by the moonlight coming through the moving clouds and hitting the crests of the waves and lone fisherman. After a process of photo editing and preliminary sketches, I used layers of expressive pastel mark making to portray the moving clouds and conveyed the shimmering water using an underpainting of acrylic silver paint, as well as metallic pastel sticks for the highlights, on charcoal Ming paper
